Well what a fantastic day for the National Mini Show which took place today at Stanford Hall near Lutterworth in Leicestershire, which was literally decended upon by hundreds and hundreds of Mini owners and enthusiasts in all shapes and sizes of Mini car, from the original Mini Traveller to the latest Mini GP and everything in between.
The weather was absolutely fantastic, staying warm and sunny throughout the day - but not TOO hot or sunny if you know what I mean. The organisation of the event and the service offered by the marshalls in parking everyone up was excellent. In fact, the only glitch was on the way down courtesy of a traffic jam on the M1 caused by a race meeting up at Donnington park causing traffic to back-up onto the motorway and several low speed shunts on the motorway caused by drivers not paying attention to the vehicle in front - I feel sorry for anyone flying from East Midlands Airport when this occurs. As to the National Mini Show, the attendance for this event by enthusiasts and owners was brilliant with literally hundreds and hundreds of Mini's scattered all over the place, having said that, Mini's actually had their own area set aside to park in. There was much to see and do with a huge selection of stalls selling anything and everything connected with Mini's, the Mini classic was well catered for in the spare parts department, I even noticed a custom dash stall producing dashboards on the spot in various colours and materials. The kids were well catered for, with a mini go-cart track for those up-and-coming Mini drivers to whet their appetite and many other attractions to keep them occupied. And no excuses for going hungry with several stalls around the perimiter catering for those with grumbling stomachs. I've never seen so many Mini clubs competing for attention in the same place before - from the older Classic Mini's lovingly restored and even a Mini Limo for those wishing to get married in style, to the Mini Mini which was a collection of cut down Mini classic cars - Must be a godsend to park in the city. Also some very well organised and newer Mini clubs with some very exotic Mini's on display including the Cooper, Cooper S, and Mini GP in abundance, though the one thing that struck me was that despite the popularity of the car, I don't think I saw two Mini's the same. The DJ put on a sparkling performance though I had to laugh at the Miss Mini competition which didn't go entirely to plan, though due to quick thinking the day went to plan. I took some 500 photographs at the Stanford Hall event and will be trying to post them on here over the next few days so if you're car's not yet shown, please revisit the site - If you have your own pics you can of course post them on here as a reply to this thread, or perhaps start your own thread. Here's the 1st batch of 10 Mini photo's - the rest to follow, please note, these are being posted in a random order! If anyone wants higher resolution versions please contact me. |

I guess we also need to say a big thank you to the Mini Owners Club team for their organising this tremendous Mini car event, though how they were able to control the weather is beyond me - Mini power to the rescue

Hi Laura and welcome to Talk Mini, pleased you like the forum and the Mini pics. Will continue to add more photo's of the event.
The National Mini show at Stanford really was very impressive with 100's of Minis parked up at the event. You mentioned about the wedding hire car, I'm assuming you mean the white Mini Limo parked up in the middle of the event. From what I can gather it's available for hire from Derek's Minis, contact info below: Derek's Wedding Hire from Derek's Minis Tel (01902) 632 584 Mob (07790) 847 390 Strangely enough, the website link shown on Derek's Minis business card that I picked up at the show is no longer registered to Derek's Minis and goes to a holding page. I can only assume that there were some problems encountered with the renewal process! |
